Field Tip Details

Species525 Coleophora solitariella, Zeller, 1849
Taxon stageLarva
Time of yearFebruary to May
FoodplantsGreater Stitchwort, Stellaria holostea
TipOn the underside of the leaves of the foodplant, the slender larval cases will be found, the larvae having recommenced feeding after their long hibernation (Elisha). [Tutt]
DetailThe foodplants give plenty of almost full-fed larvae (Machin). [Tutt]
Larvae in their cases are to be found along hedge-banks on which the foodplant grows, at the end of May. Search any plants which have a white or variegated appearance; the green plants are no good for larvae. [Tutt]
